MAHILA placemats are made for lovers of demanding simplicity, who have a love of beautiful tables and well-made things. They come to us straight from the Kandal region of Cambodia, where they are hand-woven from river rush.
Their production requires a lot of time and patience, because after harvesting and sorting the rushes, they must be dyed, then left to dry, before being woven by hand for two days. Lively and striking, these are pieces that evolve over time.
Their color can be patinated in the sun. Their unique patterns are edged with small black fringes. Woven in the tradition, MAHILA sets are meticulously made by women at home, on the loom located under the stilts of their house. This homework not only allows them to give free rein to their creativity and talent, but also to avoid the sometimes difficult conditions of factories.
