Blown glass: an art in itself

At the table with the Beldi collection or suspended with the Drio range, the Caravane recycled glass is mouth-blown by our glass artisans, as evidenced by the air bubbles that appear as subtitles in the material. Each piece retraces the story of a ballet around the fire.

A living matter

The glass is first melted in a pot furnace, heated to 1300 degrees, until it melts. The material then becomes transparent, rigid and liquid at the same time, hypnotic.

The blower begins by picking up a piece with his cane and shaping it on a flat surface. Then, with a short breath, he creates a first bubble in its center, so that the hot glass expands gently.

Then, with continuous breathing, the glassmaker works the material until the desired volume is obtained.

A rhythmic choreography, step by step

It is then a question of stretching and working the glass so that the object takes shape.

In order for the piece to match the desired silhouette, the glass craftsman refines the contours in a mold.

He will alternate between cooling and heating the material, in order to cut the edges of the piece and forge its nuances, in complete harmony.

Everyday pieces, an artistic profession

And this is how a glass, a carafe or a blown glass suspension become precious witnesses: that of exceptional know-how, meticulous and agile work, transmitted by word of mouth, by master glassmakers.
