Mahila placemats are made for those who appreciate simplicity and a love of beautiful tables and well-made objects. They come to us directly from the Kandal region of Cambodia, where they are handwoven from river rush.
Their production requires a lot of time and patience, because after harvesting and sorting the rushes, they must be dyed, then left to dry, before being hand-woven for two days. Vibrant and striking, these are pieces that evolve over time.
Their color can fade in the sun. Their unique patterns are edged with small black fringes. Woven in the traditional way, Mahila sets are meticulously crafted by women in their homes, on the loom located under the stilts of their house. This home-based work not only allows them to unleash their creativity and talent, but also to avoid the sometimes harsh conditions of factories.
