Essential care for your Caravane products

Taking care of your sofa and preserving its original appearance

Sofas

A unique and vibrant piece, your sofa was custom-made by our upholsterers. Of exceptional quality, it is designed to last for many years. We have chosen not to apply stain-resistant treatment to our textiles, in order to best preserve the appearance of the natural fiber, but also to protect nature by avoiding burdening our finishing processes with too many chemicals. A companion in your daily life, it's important to take regular care of it so that it stays with you for a long time. Here's how:

A few precautions to ensure the longevity of your seating fabric:

• Avoid direct light, both sunlight and even moonlight. Over time, color may evolve and develop a natural patina if your sofa is too directly exposed to intense light. In regions with strong sunlight, blackout curtains or blinds provide effective protection.

• Remember to dust your sofa regularly. As dust accumulates on the fabric, it will eventually become embedded and dull the textile. The proper method: use the brush provided in the care kit supplied with your sofa and avoid using a vacuum cleaner. Indeed, suction could draw out feathers, which may pierce the anti-down percale lining or even the sofa fabric… and weaken your seating. If you are away for an extended period, do not hesitate to cover your sofa with a sheet or protective cover.

• Be mindful of where your sofa is placed: avoid positioning it too close to kitchen fumes or a fireplace.

• For our Holi sofas, we recommend washing your covers every six months at 40°C to preserve the linen’s structure and durability.

If your sofa contains feathers... :

A foam core with a feather topper (70% feathers and 30% fibers for the seat) or fully feather-filled… whatever your model, it is essential that the feathers can breathe, otherwise they will become compacted.

• Cushions should be removed from the sofa and fluffed vigorously 2 to 3 times per week. A gentler alternative: drop the cushions from your full height onto the floor several times. The result is excellent with minimal effort.

• The seat mattress should be placed on its side and beaten, ensuring the feathers are redistributed toward the center.

• Once per quarter, allow your sofa cushions to air out: this helps release accumulated moisture, keeping your sofa in much better shape (quite literally).

As soon as a stain appears... Act quickly:

We do not recommend cleaning at home, as all types of fabrics linen, cotton or hemp may shrink when washed.

Temperature, the amount of water used, the size of your washing machine drum, or prolonged exposure to moisture may cause color transfer or fabric creasing. As for velvet, it must be cleaned exclusively by dry cleaning.

This is why the best option remains professional dry cleaning through a specialized company, ensuring proper care of your sofa without any unpleasant surprises.

If you choose not to follow this recommendation, here are some precautions to take:

For a light, recent and small stain:

• Use very mild detergents, without bleaching agents, suitable for your sofa’s fabric.

• Do not use too much water, as this may cause the fabric to shrink or become soaked: instead, use a soft, slightly damp cloth.

For a larger surface:

• For removable-cover sofas: we recommend testing beforehand on a cushion cover (wash at a maximum of 30°C with a mild detergent without bleaching agents), measuring it before and after to ensure the fabric has not shrunk. Use a large-capacity drum machine (such as those in laundromats) and do not leave the fabric damp inside for too long, as this may damage the color or crease the fabric. Above all, do not tumble dry, as this could shrink and/or damage the fabric. A small tip for linen covers: refit your sofa while the fabric is still slightly damp to maintain its shape.

Precautions for removing quilted feather toppers, ADAR model:

Carefully unfasten each snap to avoid damaging the fabric or seams: unsnap them one by one by levering gently, using a spoon, for example, without pulling. And to keep it looking its best: do not hesitate to shake it daily.

• For upholstered (fixed-cover) sofas: it is important to distinguish between cushion care and structure care. For cushions (removable covers), prefer dry cleaning. Please note: if the structure is not treated the same way, a difference in tone may appear between it and the cushions. We therefore recommend professional at-home cleaning by a specialized company.

• For velvet sofas: velvet naturally develops a patina over time, which is part of its beauty. This explains why variations or pressure marks may appear in the most frequently used areas. To revive the pile of the fabric, use a multi-surface active foam such as Primamousse, or gently brush the velvet with a soft bristle brush.

If your sofa has been transported:

• Its appearance may seem slightly altered; for example, seat cushions may appear more rounded. They simply need some time in use to regain their final shape. One recommendation: sink into your sofa as often as possible.

• If the sofa has removable covers, they may have shifted slightly. Simply adjust them along the edges of the structure to reposition them.

What is included in the small box offered with my sofa?

In this elegant recycled paper box, you will find a few essentials:

• A sample of your sofa fabric, to keep in case of snags or burns, or as a reference to match your sofa to your evolving interior.

• A specially designed brush: made of natural rubber, it is ideal for removing lint, hair and dust. If your sofa is velvet, the brush is made of silk bristles.

• For tufted sofas, a set of buttons is included with this document. They may be useful to replace a damaged piece.

Taking care of your raw steel furniture and preserving its original appearance

Raw steel

Steel furniture is Caravane’s pride and joy: both raw and refined, it truly stands out. To preserve it optimally, here’s everything you need to know. Caravane steel furniture is the result of meticulous work by artisan blacksmiths. The metal is in its raw state, without paint or varnish. Every detail reflects this expertise: the intentionally visible weld points, the delicately uneven appearance of the sheet metal, and the tonal variations that characterize each piece of furniture.

How should I care for my raw steel furniture?

Detergents or glass-cleaning products should be avoided. To maintain these unique pieces, we recommend using the same type of care products as for wood: colorless oil or wax polish (a blend of clear wax and turpentine). Used once a week, these products help remove fingerprints and minor scratches, while also providing a protective layer. After cleaning, use a soft, dry cloth to remove any traces of moisture. Water is the greatest enemy of raw steel furniture: never clean it with water, and do not use your furniture outdoors… otherwise rust may appear.

What should I do in case of stains?

If you spill liquid, it is essential to wipe it off immediately to prevent marks from forming. Prolonged contact may irreversibly damage the steel surface. To restore a stained piece, use a lubricating product (such as WD-40).

Don’t forget...

Raw steel is a living material, which means your furniture is meant to change and evolve over time. You must embrace the marks of time, which reflect the charm of this noble material and the authenticity of artisanal craftsmanship.

Care for your curtains and preserve their original appearance

The curtains

Curtain making is part of Caravane's history, a handmade and custom-made process that gives each curtain a unique charm. The artisanal weaving is evident in its subtle irregularities, signs of an authentic piece. We have chosen not to apply stain-resistant treatment to our textiles, in order to best respect the natural fiber's appearance, but also to preserve nature by avoiding weighing down our finishing processes with too many chemicals. The care of these natural materials requires some precautions:

Dimensions:

Depending on atmospheric temperature and/or room humidity fluctuations, curtains may shrink or stretch. This applies particularly to products made of linen.

Light fastness:

In direct light, whether from the sun or the moon, the color
may change over time and develop a natural patina. To protect the intensity of your curtain's color, we recommend lining them whenever possible.

How to care for my curtains?

Be careful where you place your curtains: not too close to smoke emanations from the kitchen or a fireplace. Remember to dust your curtains from time to time. Dust accumulating on the fabric will eventually embed itself and dull the textile. The proper
method is to unhook your curtains to avoid damaging the attachment system, then hang them on a clean support. You can brush them with a soft brush, or gently beat them to remove dust. Do not use a vacuum cleaner, as it could damage delicate fabrics.

When a stain appears... Act quickly

We do not recommend home cleaning, as any type of fabric, linen, cotton, or hemp, is likely to shrink when washed.
The temperature or quantity of water used, the size of your
washing machine drum, or the duration of exposure to humidity could lead to color transfer or creasing of the fabric. As for velvet care, it must be exclusively dry-cleaned. This is why the ideal solution remains to opt for dry cleaning by contacting a specialized cleaning company, which will be able to take care of your curtains without any unpleasant surprises.

If you do not wish to follow this recommendation, here are some precautions to take:

For a light, recent, and small stain:
• Use very mild detergents, without bleaching agents, and suitable for your curtain's fabric.

• Do not use too much water, as there is a risk of shrinking or soaking the fabric: instead, use a slightly damp soft cloth.

Special precautions for velvet fabrics:
• Velvet is a material that naturally develops a patina over time; this is part of its beauty. This explains why nuances or pressure marks appear in the most frequently used areas. To revive the "pile" of the fabric, use an active multi-surface foam like Primamousse, or gently brush the velvet with a silk bristle brush. We exclusively recommend dry cleaning; any machine washing is to be avoided.

For a complete cleaning of your curtains:
• Use a machine with a very large drum (like those found in
laundromats) and do not leave the damp fabric inside for too long, as this could damage the color or crease the fabric. Above all, do not tumble dry the fabric: this could shrink and/or damage it.
