Once placed in a room, Bayana reigns supreme.
This rug, braided on rustic wooden looms in the Mirzapur region of India, showcases several remarkable techniques: hand-embroidered and over-embroidered motifs to add relief and a play of textures, the traditional panja weaving technique, a blend of wool and cotton yarns, and weights on the sides for stability on the ground. And on top of all that, it is also a piece whose craftsmanship helps to sustain the economy of villages that would otherwise rely solely on their agricultural income.
